Gateway FX7020 Review: Junior 3D Gaming Rig

Gateway FX7020
It doesn't take a fortune to get one’s feet wet at 3D gaming. Smaller companies like Cyberpower and Velocity Micro have been selling gaming-class desktops for about $1,000 for some time. Now Gateway is doing the same with the FX7020, a $1,100 quad-core rig that you can find at select retailers. Although it won't give you blazing frame rates on the latest, graphics-happy DX10 games, it will at least let you play them, and it does well on DX9 games at any resolution.

The FX7020 packs a 2.3-GHz quad-core AMD Phenom processor, the first use we've seen of that chip. The nVidia GeForce 8800 GT is a good midlevel graphics card. A 500GB SATA hard drive and a dual-layer DVD burner with Labelflash labelburning technology (similar to HP’s LightScribe) round out the hardware. It does have some cool media features, such as a 15-in-1 card reader, an integrated IR receiver paired with a Media Center remote, and a built-in HDTV tuner. Another nice perk is the 1GB of online storage-free forever!

The system comes with major bloat ware. Worse still, it has only one PCIe x16 slot, so you can't upgrade to a dual-card SLI configuration should you outgrow the single card's limited, though solid, performance. Although it did fine on older games, its frame rates were pokey with the latest DX10 games, especially at higher resolutions. (Crysis at 1,920 by 1,200 looked almost like a slide show at 7 fps)

The comparable Dell XPS 630 costs $170 more, but it’s upgradeable to either an SLI or a CrossFire dual-card array. When you buy from Dell, though, you have to wait for the techs to assemble and ship your system. Pick up the Gateway FX7020 at your local Best Buy and you can start fragging today.

Gateway FX7020 Review
Price range: $1,100

2.3-GHz AMD Phenom 9600 processor

500GB 7,200 rpm SATA hard drive
512MB nVidia GeForce 8800GTgraphic card
dual-layer DVD±RWdrive

Eurocom LV220C ViiVA Review: A PC in HDTV Clothing

Eurocom LV220C ViiVA
The “PC in a TV’ concept isn’t new – Sony’s VAIO LT line has made an art of housing a multimedia rig in an HDTV casing. Eurocom has countered with the LV220C ViiVA, an all-in-one PC in a 22-inch widescreen frame that looks outstanding in a living room or office. Though a fine effort, it doesn't provide the oomph or the extras to match the Sony all-in-ones, and it's pricier, to boot.

With the LV220C, video is front and center. It has a tuner plus an MCE remote that supports analog cable and digital over-the-air (OTA) HDTV, as well as unscrambled digital cable channels. (You can use it without a cable box if your provider doesn’t scramble the signals.) Because the LV220C lacks component video or HDMI inputs, you can’t use an external cable or satellite box, or an external high-def Player with it. Our test unit came with a DVD burner that has LightScribe disc labeling, though Eurocom also offers HD optical disc drives.

The system packs a 2.66-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 CPU. The LV220C did well on our Windows Media Encoder test and aced our Photoshop CS3 test in a zippy 32 seconds. Its notebook-class nVidia Go 7600 graphics aren’t up to much 3D gaming, though.

The LV220C's user-serviceable chassis can accept a pair of hard drives. Ours came with a 320GB drive, but the bays can hold up to 2TB between them. If the drives are identical, you can configure them as RAID 0 (for speed and capacity) or RAID 1 (for data safety). You get 2GB of RAM, and there’s an empty slot for another 2GB.

Although the LV220C is a good choice, check out its rivals before buying. Comparable Sony LT systems sell for less, and they offer far more hardware for just a little bit more.

Eurocom LV220C ViiVA Review

Newest oven made by Electrolux named Inspiro. It can automatically determine correct way to cook and produces result wanted.

It has program which arranging temperature based on the food type in it.

Not like conventional way, that is air temperature is measured with thermometer and implemented regularly by thermostat, Inspiro applies sensor. This is the sensor which calculating most accurate combination between energy consumptions and time required to yield correct temperature.

This way similar to automatic digital camera works. Camera automatically arranges lens diaphragm, shutter speed, and focus based on lighting level and its photo object.

"When auto-exposure and auto-focus can be said as new feature at camera, quite a few people who is skeptic," said Hans Stråberg, Electrolux Chief Executive Officer. "But, along with time, auto-focus has been received and now becomes the standard feature."

Straberg tells furthermore, as at camera, Inspiro oven user only needs to push one buttons for professional result.

To cooks mutton. For example, user chooses roasting category at the oven touch control. User also can choose will the mutton be cooked in rare, medium, or well done.

Then oven will indicate the correct level to grill the flesh. Oven itself is still in cool condition.

Go from this chill start, Inspiro calculates energy consumption and time required to boost up flesh temperature until cooked level wanted.

The information then is combined with cooking technique database which saves in oven to calculate warm-up mode combination required for result wanted, for example, top, under, beside, hot weather, or grills.

When cooks process completed, oven will stop automatically. It also soon releases warning for user that food has ready to be presented.

"With Inspiro, Electrolux has transferred professional cooking technique to houses," said Christian Mittermeier, a famous chef in Germany. "No oven which able to combine top, under, beside, and grills by one menus without stopping and turning on again its oven."

According to figure which has applied Inspiro in its house and restaurant, the oven can work with high precision level. It also can be applied easily by common people. If wish to cook conventionally, Inspiro also provides manual mode.

Teamgeist II : Smart Ball from Adidas

Teamgeist II
For most football lover, goal information is enough to be known in just minute time. But, there is nothing wrong gets more accurate data from a match. One of them is, determines the second when goal is made. This made in Adidas ball, Teamgist II, will realize it.

Ball form is not far different with normally ball. Its form remains to be circular with 100 % polyurethane material. One different thing is only the external design. Its form no longer be consisted of hexagonal and pentagon areas. But, its lines are design in the form of curvatures which is in the closing form of number 8, like previous Teamgist generation before.

Teamgist II also can do other complicated job. The collaboration ball product with Cairos Technologies can determine when and how the ball passes gate line. Then, the goal is can be said legitimate. More, the technology can record ball movement and all player activity in the field.

That thing can be done because the activity integration of three sectors. That is, ball, field line, and the sensor at wristwatch used by line judge and referee on the field.

Inside ball, planted sensor is recording all field angles as an electromagnetic field. The record is transmitted to main computer which always watchs ball position in field. The record result directly reported to signal receiver in wristwatch the game officers.

When ball pass gate border line, will be sent notification signal to game officer wristwatch. Of course is equiped with data display about time note when the goal is scored.

“The technology purpose is to making football gane become more transparent. Also to assists referee to make right decision, what influences result and quality of game,” said Hans-Peter Nuernberg, Adidas Innovation Team senior researcher.

“Now, the technology of course is still in a experiment period. But, we would continuously improve the system until reach 100% accurate” said Nuernberg more.

Dell XPS One Review: The New All-in-One to Beat

Move over, Apple iMac-there’s a new king of the all-in-one PC realm. It’s the Dell XPS One, not to be confused with its recently launched rival, the Gateway One-which it outclasses, The XPS One, which starts at $1.499 for a base model, is a design statement, looking more like a sleek monitor than a PC. It has a winning feature set and is a multimedia juggernaut. It handles high-def video and TV well (despite its less-than-full HDTV resolution). But one thing it’s not is a competitive gaming rig.

Like its Gateway namesake, the XPS One is user serviceable, with a back panel that slides open. Unlike the Gateway One, it doesn’t have an extra drive bay or a drop-in SATA installation. RAM is easy to access, and an ATI Radeon HD 2400 card occupies the MXM graphics card slot (though you can’t upgrade the graphics at this point).

The XPS One has a wireless keyboard with a built-in touchpad, so you can use it on your lap while watching TV without having to enlist your log as a mouse pad. The keyboard incorporates many of the more important MCE and playback controls, and the wireless laser mouse is sweet.

The XPS One comes with Adobe’s Elements Studio. This suite is not quite the match of Apples iLife ‘08, but it’s formidable nonetheless. The Dell excelled on our multimedia tests, besting both the Gateway One and the iMac (20-inch Aluminum) with its test scores: 1 minute 13 seconds on Windows Media Encoder and 50 seconds on Photoshop CS2. Alas, the Radeon HD 2400 is a lightweight graphics card-fine for HDTV and basic 3D tasks, but its feeble 128MB of graphics memory sinks it as a pining platform.

Though some versions of the XPS One are”one cord,” the high-end model we tested requires at least one extra cable for the built-in HDTV tuner, though there’s a cable routing clip on the One to keep wires out of the way if need be. Speaking of high-def, the Dell also packs a Blu-ray drive. The display’s native resolution is 1,680-by-1,050. You can’t view HDTV in full 1,920-by-1,080p with the Dell- not that you’d be able to tell the difference on a 20-inch screen. But Blu-ray movies look terrific on the XPS One.

Between its superb design, extensive feature set, and speedy performance, the Dell XPS One has upped the ante on all-in-one greatness.

Dell XPS One Review
Specs: 2.33-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 processor; 2GB 667-MHz DDR2 SDRAM; 500GB, 7200-rpm SATA hard drive; 128MB ATI Radeon HD 2400 graphics card; BD-RE(Blu-ray) drive; integrated 20-inch widescreen LCD monitor; Windows Vista Home Premium.

Amazon Kindle Reviews: Gadget for Traveller

If you are a traveller which need some books as friend on the way, maybe electronic book reader device is the right choice. Its unnecessary again load your shoulder bag with a heap of novel or booklet. Newest electronic book( e-book) reader is introduced by Amazon.com. The name is Kindle, it can save 200 books at the same time in its internal memory.

Jeff Bezos, boss and Amazon.com Chief Executive Officer, knew for sure there is not many ways to read electronic book. ”Many e-book reader devices has dead,” he said in Kindle acquaintanceship event in New York. But, Bezos affirms, Kindle differs from conspecific device before.

Amazon spend three years to design the device. Its design is simple and comfort to held compared to other device. What is very significant is Kindle facilitates user to go shopping and buys book without requiring computer. This device connected to high-speed wireless data network (EV-DO) from Sprint seluler operator. Wireless delivery is included in the book bought price.

If compared to Sony Reader product which launched last year, Kindle dimension is thicker and bigger. Kindle has similar size with paperback book. Kindle Weight is around 292 grams. The Sony Reader price also cheaper, that is $300 (Kindle price is $399). But Sony Reader don’t have Internet connection and its internal memory is 192 MB only.

Other plus point of Amazon is outsold number of book collections. There is around 90 thousand book. Among others is 90 percent of all in demand book title which has published. Meanwhile, Sony provides 20.000 books only. For one PDF files which sent to Kindle, cost $ 10 cents, while to see PDF file, Sony give it free.

If wish to buy a book, Amazon has not reached price agreement with publisher. But, according to some executives, publication price of electronic version of a thick book which the selling price $ 27 is $ 20. E-book retail price for book at the price of $ 20 is $ 10. If Amazon dare to sell one e-book at the price of $ 9,99, they will not get profit.

Kindle also provides download service and displaying of newspaper, magazine, and blog. To subscribe ”The New York Times”, for example, cost $ 13,99 per month or $ 9,99 per month for ”The Wall Street Journal”. There is around 300 blog available in Kindle service, including Slashdot, The Onon, BoingBoing, and Techcrunch. One blog is cost around US$ 1 per month.

More plus point of Kindle compared to Reader is its easy to read black and white screen in bright room because reflecting light. This device also consumes few powers and produces low temperature because there is no backlight at screen. Kindle applies electronic ink technology from E-Ink, a company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States.

Kindle insuffiency is less elegant design though ergonomist. The content price is also can be said expensive. Black and white screen is good to book, but not interesting for web content. Also unavailable real web browser for exploring the Internet which more comfortly.

Gateway One: A Pretty Vista All-in-One

When it comes to high-concept PC design, Gateway isn’t the first name to come to mind, but the company seems bent on changing that. The Gateway One is a stylish multimedia PC, clad in glossy black. Its design is reminiscent of Apple’s Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh from 1997, considered to be the predecessor of today’s iMacs. While it isn’t an “iMackiller,” the One definitely adds some pizzazz to a cramped desk space.

The One is nothing if not innovative. Its audio system dispenses with speakers in favor of an NXT soundVu transducer, which creates sound by vibrating the front panel. This works best with vocals; bass and high frequencies are on the weak side. The panel also shields the system’s internal components, including the motherboard and optical drive.

Much of the system is user-serviceable and expandable. To get Inside the One, you lower it onto a surface (screen facing down) and release a pair of tabs that open the back panel, clamshell-style. You can pop SATA hard drives in and out of the two tool-less drive bays. The high-end (GZ7220) version of the One that I tested has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card in its Mobile PCIe (MXM) card slot. It’s adequate for 3D gaming, as long as you don’t turn all the eye candy on. One of the system’s two mini-PCI card slots holds a Wi-fi card (for 802.11 a/b/g/n), as well an NTSC/ATSC over-the-air tuner.

The one’s 19-inch screen has a native resolution of 1,440 by 900, lower than its competitors. You’ll need to scale 1080p HDTV content down to fit on the screen, but even so, it looked good. Although current model iMacs have larger screens (20 and 24 inches) than the One, they lack a TV tuner. The One also has a slot-loading, standard-definition DVD burner.

An Ethernet port, four USB 2.0 port, and digital sound ports are built into the power brick, keeping your desk cable-free. Signal pass between the One and the power brick in an elegant “one-cord” solution. The power brick can also charge devices such as MP3 players or phones over USB. But since you’re locked into using Gateway’s power brick, bear in mind that you’ll have to carry it with you if you choose to travel with the One.

Keyboard, mouse and networking are all wireless. A touchpad or pointing stick on the keyboard would have been nice, as the mouse is less wieldy if you lean back with the keyboard on your lap, but that’s a minor gripe. A plug-in, mini-USB webcam comes with the One, but it’s conspicuous and looks rather flimsy. An integrated webcam would have been preferable.

Performance-wise, the One is fast enough to motor through the tasks required of it as a multimedia-centric PC. But since its 2.0-GHz T7250 processor is slower than the 2.4-GHz T7700 in the newest Apple iMac, it was a bit slower on Windows Media Encoder 1:30 (min:sec) versus 1:16 for the iMac. Offsetting that slightly, the One’s extra 1GB of RAM (for a total 3GB) helped it on the Photoshop test (0:55 versus 0:58 for the Mac). You can add yet another gigabyte of RAM, to max out at 4GB.
The high-end GZ7220 that I tested would be overkill I for most users. But the low-end ($1,299.99) and midrange ($1,499.99) models are more compelling and should be considered before you buy that iMac.

Image Moments Digital Picture Display (IMT-081): Pretty and Secure Pictures

Boasting impressive image quality, this digital picture frame is unique in two ways. First, it supports onscreen file management; second, it has an intriguing security feature.

You can display images and video on the devices 8-inch-diagonal LCD screen and play MP3s as well. The frame's 640-by-480 4:3 screen is very clear and bright, with superb photo quality and smooth video playback. Audio sounded pleasing through the frame's built-in 2.5-watt speakers. It also has a line-out jack and even an onscreen music equalizer. The frame supports many memory card formats, too, but doesn't have a USB port or onboard memory. Interestingly, there’s a snap-on, lockable cover to protect the memory card slot.

The device's file management system lets you create folders right on the frame. Copying photos into the new folder, however, is tedious. The included remote has an overabundance of controls but no Back button, and menu navigation is not very intuitive.

Image Moments' top-notch photo quality, convenient file management options, and other unique features make it a fine choice in this growing category.

Kodak EasyShare EX811: Widescreen Wi-Fi Memories

Looking for an easy, intuitive way to display your digital photos? Kodak's versatile EasyShare, with its 8-inch, 16:9 widescreen, Wi-Fi capability, and support for a wide variety of memory cards, is definitely worth checking out.
To start, the device's interface is the most intuitive I've seen. But the real draw here is that you can wirelessly stream photos, video, and music to the frame. To do so, you'll need a Wi-Fi - enabled network (802.11b or g) and Windows Media Player 11. Once I got through the setup, this feature worked without a glitch. The frame also has 128MB of onboard memory and supports most memory card formats. In addition, you can connect devices via USB.

Although I appreciate the EasyShare's flexibility, the quality of the 800-by480 resolution screen could be better: Whites get washed out, and there are small lines visible. Video quality was also sub par: Playing an MPEG4 file produced choppy results.

The Kodak EasyShare EX811 is the first Wi-Fi- enabled digital photo frame I've tested that's relatively easy to set up and use. A handy adapter for its mini USB Port makes establishing connections a snap. Although its photo quality isn't the best, the frame's other features-including the 128MB of onboard memory and a headphone jack, help offset this shortcoming.
