Gateway P-170L QS Review: Stylin’ Mammoth Media Laptop

Gateway P-170L QS
In the epic struggle to come out on top of the media center heap, design and price can really set a laptop apart. Enter the Gateway P-170L QS, a stylish hulk of a desktop-replacement notebook. Unfortunately, this 17-inch widescreen wonder is hobbled by a lack of features, weak graphics, and no HD drive.

Measuring 11.4 by 15.7 by 1.5 inches (HWD) and weighing 8.5 pounds, the P-170L QS lives up to its pre-launch code name, Godzilla. The sleek chassis was designed using in-mold decoration, a process in which decorative art is imprinted beneath the glossy finish. The high-definition widescreen is delightful to look at and fine for multitasking. At 720p screen resolution, it falls a bit short of the 1080p boasted by some of its competitors, but that’s still enough to make HD content look good. Still, the absences of an HD DVD-ROM drive stings.

The system’s feature set is, at best, satisfactory. The three USB ports fall short of the competition. The FireWire port, which Gateway claims its customers aren’t using anymore, has been replaced by an eSATA port. Though eSATA peripherals are in their infancy, they offer significant performance improvements over FireWire and USB. The P170L QS also adds an HDMI-out port, convenient for displaying photo slide shows and presentations on a bigger screen. The 1.3-megapixel camera is handy for video chats, despite the weak included speakers.

The laptop’s 320GB worth of storage space (two 160GB hard drives) is enough to keep you downloading video and photo content for a long time. The P-170L QS performed well despite some mediocre aspects, particularly the graphics, which are integrated—
an unusual choice on such a big laptop. What the notebook lacks in 3D performance it makes up for in battery life, generating more than 3 hours on MobileMark 2007 using its 58-Wh battery.

Although the P-170L QS is a decent bargain when you factor in the price tag and new design, you’re getting only passable features and mediocre performance parts for your money.

Gateway P-170L QS Review

Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Review: A New ‘Idea’ from Lenovo

Lenovo IdeaPad Y510

In the early of this year Lenovo releases their newest product, what aims at general user and entertainment lover, that is the line of “Idea” computer.

One of the products from Idea family is IdeaPad Y510. This is a family laptop which has adopted Intel Santa Rosa platform. Its screen diagonal width is 15,4 inches, weight around 2,9 kilograms. Its form still looks like Lenovo laptop 3000 although seen a few more luxuriant.

Forgets about shine glossy body because this laptop covers particularly has rough texture like a woven cloth. But, the design still impressed beloved because its LCD screen is not mounted nattily. Of course it doesn’t provide back light keyboard. But that’s paid with a few multimedia shortcut buttons which sensitive to touch, which good for controlling volume and equalizer.

Y510 powered by Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 processor (1,83 GHz) and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100. It has data storage with a size of 250 GB (5.400 rpm), 2GB RAM (can be improved to 4GB), and a DVD writer.

For the connection, this laptop applies Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG or 4965AGN Wi-Fi module, an Ethernet LAN, and 56 Kbps modem. It also supports three USB port, an addition ExpressCard memory card slot, 6-1 media card reader, FireWire port, and VGA and S-Video output.

Not only present picture with WXGA (1280 x 800 pixel) resolution in screen, Y510 also has 1,3 megapixel webcam, which can be functioned as security feature, substitution of fingerprint identification. It is face recognition feature.

By activating the “VeriFace Face Recognition” application; this laptop can recognize its user face as password. Thereby the user is unnecessary to enter password when asked. This laptop has also accommodated some computer software; for example word processing application and photo / video editor.

As entertainment laptop, it also provide five speaker unit, including subwoofer, what claimed has fulfilled Dolby Home Theater standard. According to Lenovo, its sound system can produce surround sound from film, video, music, and game into cinematic experience. But, does correct that way?

The IdeaPad Y510 speaker is good enough when applied, for example to listen music on film. But it’s not better than speaker of Toshiba Qosmio G40 or even Acer Gemstone 5920G.

Besides, is difficult to expect two speakers and one subwoofer (2.1) can present speaker surround 5.1 sound. At least, the strength of its battery is good enough. With it standard battery (6-cell), Y510 estimated can live in around 4 hour.

MSI Megabook PR200 Review: Upper Class Notebook from MSI

MSI Megabook PR200
MSI notebook product till now maybe felt more targeting to low-end segment because dominated by cheap price notebook. But Megabook PR200 which we tested is successfully proves if MSI also competes in higher segment product. This thing seen from the usage of various upper class facility like Intel newest generation processor, fingerprint scanner, HDMI port, and TPM Security Chip.

Megabook PR200 is a notebook with 12,1 inches screen with weight around 1,8 kg. It means this notebook targeting to the mobile professional. Because professional people often uses internet line to communicate with voice and picture, hence this notebook is also equipped by 1,3 megapixel webcam and microphone button that is supporting Al Array. This microphone technology makes voice catch limited to conic area in front of its (notebook user) and removes voice from other side which will disturb. Lenovo 3000 V200 Review: When Style Don’t Matter

Lenovo 3000 V200
Lenovo 3000 V200 basically is V100 series changeover. In physical, both are not far different, but ‘the machine’ inside is different. Lenovo 3000 V200 has applied Santa Rosa Intel generation processor, that is Core 2 Duo T7300 (2GHz, FSB 800Mhz, cache 4MB). Its memory is also increase, from 512MB to 1GB. The improvement makes its performance is equal with notebook as of class (Acer Travelmate 6292).

Though has adopted newest generation processor, not mean V200 costlier. The price is around US$1299, competitive enough for 12,1 inches class notebook which has applied Santa Rosa processor. This thing is in line with Lenovo strategy which positioning their 3000 series in middle segment, or below the ThinkPad series which targeted to upper segment.

Like other 12,1 inches class notebook, V200 addressed for professional that is mobile and requires light notebook. This thing maybe not seen from its physical form which seen thick and rigid, but in weighing machine, V200 weight is around 1,98 kg. Of course not lighter than Sony Vaio TZ or Asus W5F, but at least still below the psychological number of 2 kg.

Keyboard applied by V200 can be said the tradition from IBM because seen precisely; and that is a fineness. We are the big fan of IBM keyboard because it very comforts to use. Its high form of course makes we must press deep enough to activate it, but because so soft, typing process become very balmy and doesn’t make us tire. The only thing which we regret is the location of fingerprint scanner near touchpad, so that a few hampering hand which leaned when typing.

Shortcut button provided by Lenovo is facilitating enough to activate the facility that offered by this notebook. In button line at up side of keyboard, we can find the button to setting the volume and activates the MediaNow application. This application functions is to turn on the multimedia application. Besides, there are Lenovo Care button which will activate the utility to check notebook health, including look for the reason if problem happened.

Lenovo 3000 V200 maybe not a stylist notebook which making everyone pierce at you when you use the notebook, but it can be said reliable for all computing activity which you do. The combination of Intel T7300 processor and 1GB memory has been very satisfactory to be used in various computing activities, except for game application. The price of $1299 - including Windows Vista Home Business and fingerprint scanner – is also felt match. So this notebook is well-matched for serious user which don’t need stylish product.

Asus F9S Review: Good 12,1 inches Notebook

Asus F9S
12,1 inches class notebook till now identical with limited performance and facility. This because its small measure (difficult to be added by various facility) so that targeted to mobile user (which don’t require complete feature notebook).

But that’s image a few incompatible with the presence of Asus F9S. As a 12,1 inches class notebook, the facility and performance of this notebook equal with upper class notebook. The most important is the usage of stand alone graphic card, nVidia GeForce 8400GM. This graphic card it is indeed including low-end class, but at least has better performance than onboard graphic card which applied by majority of 12,1 inches class notebook and also 14-15 inches. In left side, you also will find HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) port which usually available in multimedia class notebook. HDMI functioning to connects notebook to TV or projector to send high definition film.

This notebook performance is provable because the usage of Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2,2 GHz) processor with 2GB memory. This combination easily finalizes all tests which we did, even with special time notes among all notebooks which tested. In everyday usage, this notebook also works fine when implementing Windows Vista Home Premium. Need to be noted if notebook specification which we tested is above the standards (standard Asus F9S applies Intel T7300 and 1GB memory), but the test which we do at least shows big ability which offered by this notebook.

Talks about the usage, this notebook successfully make me feel comfort when using it. When I try to typing, the keyboard is felt pleasant, nor felt hot though applied in long time. Little detail but important has been thought by Asus, like indicator lamp that is turn on when Wi-Fi mode is active, and the indicator at screen which shows the level of volume, brightness, and other parameter. Its fingerprint scanner which far placed in under right side also minimizes the possibility to touch by hand accidentally.

Fujitsu LifeBook S6510 Review: Luminous and Lightweight

Fujitsu LifeBook S6510
The question to consider with most ultraportables is what the manufacturer had to forgo to hit the target weight. A notable exception is the Fujitsu LifeBook S6510, which offers a glorious 14-inch widescreen in a 4-pound package. It’s a treat to see it accomplish something few laptops can do, even if it comes with a hefty price tag.

LED backlights, instead of fluorescent tubes, are the new wave in mobile computing, allowing for thinner screens and greater power savings. Fujitsu’s Crystal View technology accounts for the sheer brilliance of the matte screen, though you may have to put up with some glare wider fluorescent lighting.

The unit’s Intel dual-core processor, generous for an ultraportable, is the kind you’d find in a desktop replacement laptop and is paired with 2GB of RAM to handle the demands of Vista. The S6510 scored -well on our tests, though its SYSmark 2007 Overall score lagged behind those of systems with discrete graphics. Battery life was good at 3 hours 45 minutes, but you can up that to 6 hours by swapping out the DVD burner for an additional six-cell battery.

Features are generous, though the S6510 lacks cellular broadband; built-in Wi-Fi will have to suffice. The system boasts three USB ports, a FireWire port, an S-Video jack, plus VGA, Ethernet, and modem ports. The built-in dual-layer DVD burner is a treat, and the 1.3-megapixel webcam is handy for videoconferences. The S6510 keeps its 120GB hard drive secure with a fingerprint reader, a smart-card reader, and TPM (Trusted Platform Module).

On the whole, the S6510 offers a comfortable computing experience. The full-size keyboard feels a little mushy, but the mouse buttons and touchpad are plenty responsive. Four additional application keys above the keyboard can be customized to quick-launch any program. The speakers were a little weak, but that’s common in business-focused machines. Fujitsu did a good job with air circulation, too; temperature readings measured only 85° F across the base and palm rests.

Thanks to advances in technology and a magnificent widescreen, the powerful S6510 is a fine choice for any business with deep pockets.

OLPC XO-1 Review: A Laptop for the Masses

OLPC XO-1
The One Laptop per Child (OLPC) initiative has finally released its XO-1 laptop. For a $200 donation, it will send one to a child in a developing country that doesn’t have the means to buy one. You currently can’t get an XO-1 of your own, at least not without paying for 100 or more of them.

Technology- wise, the XO-1 is a study in contrasts. Its sub-500-MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, and 1GB of flash storage are puny by today’s standards (though fine for its target audience of 6- to 12-year olds). Other features, such as its networking capability, LED-backlit screen, and ruggedized exterior are things we’ve seen in $2.000 notebooks.

The two antennas serve as both screen latches and port covers, shielding the three USB ports as well as the headphone and microphone jacks. The XO-1 is Wi-Fi enabled, compatible with 802.11b/g, and capable of 802.11s mesh networking, in which the laptop acts as a node in a P2P network.

The laptop’s 7.5-inch screen can pivot 180 degrees into an e-Book mode. The interface is built on Fedora Linux. A taskbar at the bottom displays icons for functions such as Chat, Browse, Write, Paint, and Calculate, as well as open-source, educational programs. Among the more advanced are the TamTam music-creation program, and TurtleArt and Pippy, this programs will teach computer programming. The browser, a tweaked version of Firefox, supports Flash and AJAX-based sites.

The XO-1’s green-and-white frame is resistant to water, tumbles, and temperature extremes. The keyboard is very responsive. The XO-1 uses so little power that any 8-to-11-volt power system (hand generator, solar panel, or car battery) is enough to run it. I measured power usage at 18 warts while the battery was charging and 6W when charged. (Even an energy-efficient value desktop draws 60 to 100W.)

Millions of kids around the world have never used a computer and lack the means to get one. Putting the power of technology into their hands, and those of their families, has the potential of both improving their standard of living and moving us toward a true global village. And who knows? The Xo-1’s success may change the future of laptops in the U.S. as well.

OLPC XO-1 Review

- 256MB 333-MHz DDR SDRM

Compaq Presario 6150b Review: Clumsy Business Notebook

Compaq Presario 6150b
Latterly HP tries to construct Compaq as separate brand, with new logo and interesting design. But Compaq Presario 6150b comes up not interesting at all. Not like other Compaq notebooks which have nice design to seen, this notebook guaranteed not to fascinate you at first sight.

This notebook actually addressed for business segment, so that the design side is more directed at its functional. Same as other HP series, 6510b is informative enough. Every port is labled in place which is easy to seen. Lable at keyboard is also easy to be understand, guaranteed you will not confuse when applies it. Which also pleases is it quick access buttons design – Help button, wireless connection, presentation, and sound volume control - which design to be flat with surface. Panasonic Toughbook CF-52 Review: Rough-and-Tumble Laptop

Panasonic Toughbook CF-52
You might think that sturdy and consumer friendly are mutually exclusive qualities in a laptop. Panasonic has proven that notion wrong with its Toughbook CF-52. This semi-rugged notebook keeps the tough-as-nails qualities of its predecessors while adding features like discrete graphics and cutting-edge processing power. But keep in mind, the add-ons add up fast, and a fully equipped laptop could set you back quite a bit.

The CF-52’s thick magnesium alloy chassis qualifies it as semi-rugged. Panasonic claim it can withstand a one-foot drop onto plywood. The unit has a spill-through keyboard with a porthole that drains through the bottom of the laptop. (At Panasonic’s request we didn’t test these features, so you’ll have to take their word for it.) Plastic snap-on covers shield the CF-52’s four USB ports and Express Card 34 and PC Card slots from water and dust. The hard drive and dual-layer DVD burner are easily removable to protect data in a pinch. All these precautions add up weight-wise, but the CF-52’s briefcase handle makes it a little easier to lug around the 7.4-pound load.

The CF-52 also offers plenty of consumer friendly features. Its 15.4-inch widescreen features 1,920-by-1,200 resolution: overkill for that size but a godsend for multimedia tasks. Panasonic didn’t cut corners, opting for a discrete ATI graphics card, the newest Centrino Duo parts, and 1GB of RAM. Battery life is fantastic, lasting 5 hours 15 minutes on MobileMark 2007. My review system came with an optional fingerprint reader and smart-card slot module. An internal EV-DO Rev A cellular modern is another great add-on.

The CF-52 integrates some nifty media aspects into a sturdy laptop. If you’re willing to pay a premium, this notebook promises to see you through some tough times.

Specs: 2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T700 processor; 1GB DDR2 SDRAM; 120GB, 5.400-rpm hard drive; 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 HD graphics card; 15,4-inch 1,920-by-1,200 widescreen; 7,4 pounds system weight (9.2 pounds travel weight); 85-Wh, 7.65-Ah, lithium ion battery, Windows XP professional.

Asus G1S Review: Notebook for Gamer

Asus G1S
Processor performance and graphic card from notebook which increasingly better is generates notebook which addresed for gamer. One of them is is Asus G1S, the 15,4 inchs notebook is equipped by middle class graphic card from nVidia, GeForce 8600M GT. This graphic card also supported DirectX 10, so supports all features which Vista offers.

Because trying to please the gamer, Asus tries coming perfect in the sound side. To generate surprise sound sensation, GS1 has speaker in left side, right, and under the notebook. This configuration successfully makes sound produced is powerfull enough, though still felt lack of bass touch. While for picture quality, can be said G1S is one of the best. Its viewing angle is wide in horizontal and vertical side, so the colour and sharpness remain to be great if seen from various sides.

For G1S feature, this notebook must reside in the upper line. Its optic peripheral already HD-DVD, and equipped with HDMI audio-video connector. Other unique feature and we have never meets in other notebook is external SATA (eSATA) connector. eSATA theoretically can stream the data until 300MB/second, so can become interesting alternative if you frequently did back-up to external harddisk.

One bad side of this notebook is the location of USB port. Fourth port is placed in backside, rather complicates to use though USB flash disc is routine activity that is often we do. This Notebook has weight 3,1 kgs, so don’t hope can bring it travels comfortably.

This notebook looks so classy. Usage of shiny black carbon fiber makes it impressed gallant. Moreover Asus cleverly combine it with light green colour (as at button and panel rear camera), makes this notebook seen more stylish. The smooth gleam surfaces is nor too susceptible of fingerprint, so seen clean though do we often touch it. We also like the keyboard, mainly because every buttonis separate in big distance and felt deep.

Though addressed as gaming notebook, Asus GS1 basically is compatible for all man who is wishing class notebook. Not only from performance side, but Asus GS1 is also seen stylish from appearance side. Moreover the feature figured can be said complete, starts from HDMI, eSATA, until HD-DVD; a feature combination which we have never meets in other notebook. That explains why the price reachs $ 2099.

BenQ Joybook S41 Reviews: Another Santa Rosa Notebook

BenQ Joybook S41
After seeing it, no wonder if this notebook get red dot Design Award as one of product with innovative design. One of the key is purple circle pattern in the notebook cover. Seen to be ordinary, but the pattern actually “patched” with special technology called Laminated Color Metal Technology. This covers not only has an unique design, but also strong because used material from magnesium mixture.

As a 14,1 inchs notebook, BenQ S41 comes up special in graphic card side because using GeForce 8600M GS. This graphic card has full supported of DirectX 10 so suitable to Windows Vista requirement. GeForce 8600M GS has graphic clock speed 1,2GHz and memory speed 600Hz, so even can play a heavy-weight game. Unhappily this notebook only supplied by processor Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 (1,8 GHZ), or the lower processor in Santa Rosa processor line. So if it compared to 14,1 inchs notebook from other brand, BenQ S41 seen defeated.

In general the usage test of this notebook is satisfies. Big size keyboard and deep felt when depressed makes typing process felt comfort. We also like the touchpad area which made harsh, makes it responsive when applied. Become one touchpad button for a moment feel so odd, but we successfully adapted with easily. As usual, the screen quality of BenQ notebook seen special, with high brightness so remain to be pleasing when applied to look on Pirates of Carribean film which presenting a lot of dark setting.

Besides HDMI, feature given by this 2,4 kgs notebook is pertained equivalent with other notebook, like WiFi, Bluetooth, camera, card reader, and DVD Writer. But there are one thing that needs to be noted is its WiFi feature supporting Draft-N standard. So its wireless ability pertained fast, that is around 2,4MB/second when transferring different data in our lab floor.

There is not many class 14,1 inchs notebook having independent graphic card like BenQ S41. So, it gaming and multimedia ferformance more special is compared to other one class notebook. This Notebook undeniably is only applies Intel T7100, but powerful enough to implement even a heavy-weight application. With the price only around $ 1149 (without operating system), BenQ S41 is good choice.

Toshiba Qosmio G45-AV680 Review: Heavyweight Laptop Contender

Toshiba Qosmio G45-AV680
Although you may want to move this laptop around, you probably wouldn’t take it with you on a cross-country trek. Toshiba’s newest Qosmio, the G45-AV680, is a great hulking laptop, weighing in at a hefty 9.9 pounds, with a glorious 17-inch 1080p widescreen. The system was given a much-needed design overhaul; in particular, it’s the first laptop with an HD DVD-R writable drive. Unfortunately, its high price tag is likely to scare off most would-be buyers.

The Qosmio’s high-definition experience is arguably the best in the media center laptop category. Toshiba’s software HD DVD player produces crisp, smooth, artifact-free image. The system’s HD DVD-R drive lets you burn and play back HD DVD content. And its four integrated Harman Kardon speakers. 1-bit amplifier, subwoofer, and Dolby 5.1 surround sound make the audio offerings the most powerful available in a laptop.

Toshiba skipped the integrated TV tuner, instead opting to include an external USD tuner and capturing device so that you can record TV content to the dual 160GB drives. Otherwise, the system is loaded with features, including five USB ports, a fingerprint reader, a FireWire port, and both an ExpressCard/34 and a PC Card slot.

The HD burning process lags behind its Blu-ray competition, occurring at a slow IX speed. And if you let Toshiba’s Disc Creator software verify the finished product, the process will take twice as long, since the program analyzes each file.

The Intel dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and discrete graphics card are set in stone on Toshiba’s Web site, but they are enough to handle most multimedia tasks and some 3D-intensive games (though not at a high resolution).

The Toshiba Qosmio G45-AV680 is not an economical way to score true 1080p content on your laptop. But if awesome surround sound and HD DVD burning capabilities are what you seek, this laptop delivers those goods and more.

HP Pavilion dv9000 Review: Grand Notebook

HP Pavilion dv9000
If most exquisite and luxury piano called as grand piano, hence HP Pavilion dv9000 can be called as grand notebook. There are many reasons to equalize both. Which most noticeable, dv9000 is a big notebook. Its monitor size is 17,2 inchs, so that the dimension reaching 28,5x39,6x3 cm with 3,56 kgs weight.

Pavilion this dv9000 also looks like piano in slippery material and flash applied. This material makes it seen elegan, though latter we discover s(he very susceptible of fingerprint. Though has tried cleanness hand, footstep jemari we remain to be ex- swimmingly. Possibly that is why HP brings as of mop sheet as equipment of standard.

HP Pavilion dv9000 can be classified as multimedia notebook; and it’s the special one. You can look in its speaker which using Altec Lansing, so that bang sound heard more energetic. Sound level is sett through unique touch button and gives futuristik impression. Its LCD screen is luxurious. Equiped with BrightView technology, we see a real bright screen to present every detail.

Other feature which strengthens dv9000 position as notebook multimedia is the existence of HDMI feature. With this feature you can connect this notebook to High Definition television that is supporting HDMI. It doesn’t forget provided a remote controller so you can operate this notebook from sofa in your family room.

Unfortunately there is dv9000 optical which still having DVD Writer type. Though, other notebook in same class already applied High Definition optical, like Toshiba Qosmio F30 and Acer Aspire 9125WLHi which using HD-DVD ROM. Pavilion dv9000 nor provides TV Tuner which is the standard equipment in Qosmio F30 and Aspire 9125WLHi.

With great quality of screen and speaker, plus HDMI feature for high definition video audio entertainment, reasonable if HP Pavilion dv9000 get predicate as a complete multimedia notebook. Even there is insuffiency was at no TV Tuner and HD DVD-ROM or BluRay optical class peripheral. But remembers the price which around US$ 2000- cheaper than Qosmio F30 and Acer Aspire 9125WLHi- excusable I thing.

Compaq Presario V3502TU Review: Great Performance with Class Design

Compaq Presario V3502TU
Along promotion of the new logo, HP starts clearly positions its Compaq series notebook. If HP Pavilion series positioned as upper class notebook, hence Compaq Presario series is more positioned as notebook for segment below its.

Compaq Presario V3502 which we tested is the first notebook in new era of Compaq. This Notebook has applied Intel Centrino platform Santa Rosa generation. Operating System of this notebook has applied Windows Vista, even only Home Basic version.

We call it “only” because Vista Home Basic is the lowest version from Vista. Main feature of Vista of course still be available, but Aero cannot appear in Vista Home Basic version. Though the 3D Flip display or transparent windows becoming the Aero characteristic is one of the very interesting feature a least from visual side. This notebook already applied best component but not too maximum because the limitation of Operating System.

If you like to sees true performance of this notebook, applies it for serious activity like doing multitasking or multimedia encoding. As seen from the test, this notebook has equivalent speed with notebook on other Santa Rosa bases. Though the processor applied is Intel T7100 (1,8GHz) which is lowest speed processor from the line of Santa Rosa processor.

This 2, 4 kgs notebook design is alike like Compaq Presario V3125TU series which we tested before. The main material is technology InPrint plastic, what marked with gleam surface with unique line pattern. Usage of the material of course is at risk to dirty whne hit by fingerprint, but we like its luxuriant impression which looks from its gleam surface.

While from usage side, we like its curved keyboard button so every button felt distance one another. But this notebook has the same issue like notebook which using plastical material, which is felt hot in left side of hand arm. While its screen can present bright picture but its viewing angle in vertical side rather limited.

ThinkPad T61: Learn from Nature

Nature teachs many things to human, and Lenovo applies one of those when designing their newest notebook, ThinkPad T61. Its LCD prop covers is intentionally designed in hexagin form, similar like bee hive. Design so-called Top Cover Roller Cage is believed increasesing LCD performance and lessens the damage risk of screen display structure.

Safety is becomes the main focus of this notebook which segmented for professional. Besides casing, it’s also seen from data protection mechanism in harddisk. Besides using anti-shake harddisk, there is an Active Protection System which functioning likes airbag at car. Every time detecting unexpected movement, this system would automatically stop the harddisk activity so your data will protect from damage.

This Lenovo newest Notebook is also cooler from its previous series because usage of more efficient thermal management cooling. This system reduces the temperature until 10% and lessens sound level until 3 decibel. No wonder if ThinkPad T61 called as quiet and coolest ThinkPad from all ThinkPad series.

ThinkPad T61 is pertained as Santa Rosa generation notebook because using socket P processor (Intel T7100, T7300, T7500, and T7700). The price of this notebook varies depends on the configuration, with base price around US$ 1399.

Gateway T-140X: Trendy Gateway Laptop

With its laptops, Gateway has consistently put performance over design. The T-140X however, signals a change of pace. This 14-inch widescreen’s slick looks, complete with a choice of colors and designs laminated into the lid and palm rests, will appeal to the style-conscious. But to keep the price low, Gateway went with weak processing components, hurting performance.

The T-140X's Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 CPU runs at a modest 1.5 GHz. There's only 1GB of RAM (not enough for Vista Home Premium); moreover, the integrated graphics grab some of the system memory. Consequently, the T-140X produced low SYSmark 2007 Preview and multimedia scores. Also, the 49-Wh (six-cell) battery lasted just 2 hours 5 minutes running down a DVD.

Gateway did add a few nice components, including a 160GB hard drive, a dual-layer DVD burner, and a 1.3-megapixel swivel webcam. We also liked the full-size keyboard, which is solid and responsive. But although the T-14OX is a handsome laptop at a low price, for the cost of upgrading you could get a better system like the Dell Inspiron 1420.

Gateway T-140X: $899
