Acer Veriton VZ410G

The Acer Veriton VZ410G is an all-in-one desktop, which have increasingly become more popular, with a 3.0GHz Intel CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 21.5-inch LCD display. It has some decent connectivity, including eSATA, but lacks one crucial multimedia feature, which is what an all-in-one PC is usually all about.

The Veriton VZ410G is rather clunky looking and quite frankly looks quite strange. The screen is propped up on a several inch high speaker bar, which makes it look cheap. It measures 19.6 x 21.6 x 5.1-inches (hwd) and has a thick, black bezel on top of the silver speakers. If you can get past the looks of the machine, it isn’t too bad what’s inside.The 21.5-inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080-pixels, which is full 1080p high-definition resolution, again catering to the multimedia uses. The screen has a matte finish to cut down on glare and is quite bright, almost too bright sometimes that colors seem washed out. However, the quality of the details is very crisp and clear, which make it a very good screen overall. The display is not touch-enabled, but this is predictable because Acer obviously tried to keep the price down with this unit. There is a built-in Webcam, microphone and as we said, stereo speakers. Under the display are a few status lights but also some buttons to control the brightness of the display and volume of the speakers. These are nice to have right on the display for easy and quick access.
Acer includes a PS/2 serial mouse and keyboard, which are very basic and rather uncomfortable to use, especially the keyboard. The keys are very large and wide and don’t offer much feedback. The mouse is a plain three-button mouse and has virtually zero ergonomics built in.
On the left side of the Acer Veriton VZ410G, you’ll find six USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA port, VGA, DVI, three audio line-in ports, gigabit Ethernet, two PS/2 ports, and a rather antiquated COM port. The right side has two more USB 2.0 ports and microphone/headphone ports. There is also a multiformat memory card reader and a DVD+/-RW optical disc drive. Lacking is a TV tuner card and perhaps an HDMI port to connect it to an HDTV.
Inside the Veriton VZ410G, there is an Intel dual-core E5700 CPU (3.0GHz), 2GB of DDR3 RAM, an integrated Intel X4500 graphics processor, a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive and 802.11b/g/n wireless connectivity. Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) is pre-installed, which again takes this all-in-one one step away from a full-out multimedia desktop. These specs certainly aren’t the best of the best out there, but for casual home multimedia use as a family-centered computer, it does the trick. Even small businesses might also get in on this computer too.
The integrated video processor limits this computer’s graphics abilities to just the average tasks, like productivity use and other average computing tasks. Certainly don’t expect to use this computer to play any 3D games because it won’t cut it even close. Watching HD content and DVD movies worked quite well, however, and produced good quality images on the display with only minor blemishes in quality.
Acer also includes a lot of applications with the Veriton VZ410G, including their security suite, eRecovery, Adobe Reader, CyberLink PowerDVD, Nero 9 Essentials, Google Toolbar, Skype and also trial versions of McAfee Internet Security and Microsoft Office Starter 2010.
